lighting partner

Yesterday Marieka met with our potential lighting partner INLITE who have some amazing products (shipped from Spain and Italy). How do we all feel about the fact that they are imported? It'd be great to get some thoughts on this.

a new lease of life

don't you love it when working relationships are re-defined and new opportunities emerge? today my former project manager who I worked very closely with in 2009 was very generous in giving me exclusive access to Melbourne Uni's massive unused furniture storage space - and he will give me anything I want for free!

admittedly some of the stuff there is quite old-fashioned, but they are also well-built. if we carefully select the right pieces - with a lot of love, work, and attention to detail - I think we can make a lot of beautiful, quality pieces for the Hub. I can imagine a lot of great items for the space through the re-upholstering of chairs, sanding/staining/repolishing of shelves, powdercoating of steel bases and giving them new timber tabletops, etc. I've got a lot of energy about this!

Brad, I also came across some old doors for our "doors-of-opportunity"-super-mobile-meeting-room-partition-slash-table-tops!

On another note, thanks also to the core team for sharing yesterday what your expectations of a professional space are (we'd love to hear from others on the design blog as well!). It's great to hear what your expectations are so that we know we are heading on the right track!

I: raw materials (metallic, rustic), good lighting, scavenge, not too much like black cat cafe. In between young, function and trendy, colour, warm palette, yes!!
M: Eclectic with quality (can be old and reclaimed but still good) no plastic, no cheap china, value set guides, balance between cheap and expensive example the lights, functionality, space product service, spending extra
N: Peaceful, coherent, alternative to flowers
S: Thoughtful, why is it there? purpose should be obvious, it all should work, things should be right, then people wouldn't mind if other things are not going to work, technology in place
B: purpose, CEO of a bank should think "this is amazing!", signature pieces, lots of plants, the communal table is awesome!, thoughtful and different, what does a CEO want? signature pieces, that table, the meeting room out of doors with a teleconference, comfortable chairs, innovative

(thanks to Nynke for the notes!)

Makedo

Saw makedo.com.au on the Membership blog and was wondering if we could use them to make some temporary furniture for the Hub Melbourne Incubator. Could we even use it to make our temporary meeting room divider as part of the make day? Hopefully it will be a little bigger then this one.

Workshop :Knit With Me
This instance is not only about knitting. It is mainly about discovering your own creativity and sharing new experience with people from diferents horizons.
Sometimes is not easy to come toegheters, share and communicate our experience. The feeling of community (comon unity) is inspiring (in spirit) for everyone, even more now a days when we spend so much time in front our computers, stack to the phone and TV.

This workshop is an ...invitation for sharing, but above all, to carry on with us the experience lives here into our daily lifes. We all have the potential to do what we propose ourselves. We have a great and infinity capacity (om muni muni, maha muni) to learn and create and if what we do we share it with others and work toegheters, the result can be marvelous.

I invite you this Sunday September 19th, at 15:00hrs, to lear how to knit and if you already know, come aswell and share it with others!

If you want to join us, send me an e-mail to knittingthelife@gmail.com and I'll advise you the exact place.

The workshop is for Free, only a donation of 2 wool yarns is required.

Hope to see you there!
Much Love
