lighting partner

Yesterday Marieka met with our potential lighting partner INLITE who have some amazing products (shipped from Spain and Italy). How do we all feel about the fact that they are imported? It'd be great to get some thoughts on this.

I think that there are some issues with this in relation to the design brief. Perhaps some questions to ask are? What is the relative impact of the transportation on both construction and use emissions? Are there local designers that we are not considering that we should? Are these lights representative of Hub Melbourne or are they just cool?
I agree with Simon :)
Chris has recommended that we talk to ISM: http://www.ismobjects.com.au/ - locally made and great people!
Hi guys, if I could make a suggestion (sorry for jumping in so late!), we asses what our lighting need is.
If we are looking at general ambient/task type of lighting i.e. downlights or the recessed in the ceiling type of stuff, might be better if we look into LED. The initial price might seem steep, but in the long haul it will pay for itself esp. in terms of maintenance and bills.
If it is for feature/decorative lights, ISM is great (we deal with them at the office). But usually decorative lightings (actually lightings in general) are expensive because of the fittings, not necessarily the lights themselves. Another locally made company that does lighting is 4M.
Although I'm no expert, I'll be more than happy to help if needed!

Principles vs. Funkiness

I guess this is where we need to stick with the principles...

Hi everyone,Really glad about how this conversation is going. I'm glad that we want to come back to our principles, that's what we are offering at Hub and so it's gotta be core to all we do and are.Incidentally i got a call from a cad-cam operator yesterday, might be a chance of making something ourselves in Collingwood! (I'll see if I can get examples)LEDs .. good idea ..We'll need to talk about how potential partners such as inlight could offer us things if their products don't fit in the brief. I've got a few ideas..
