HUB - so WHAT are WE DOING THIS WEEK? A call to arms!

HELLO Hubbers!

Happy new decade. Things are different.

While Melbourne sleeps we are starting a big busy month at the Hub, designing and making loads of stuff. So come and get your hands dirty, spike yourself with some splinters, stain your t-shirt with paint... break your nails. HERE, what we are trying to achieve in Melbourne is ambitious and deep.

The design team and hosts would love your involvement, because we believe that participation breeds deep community, belonging and a sense of ownership.

In 2011 Hub Melbourne is working towards a community ownership model in which volunteered time and skills WILL be counted to help build capital. As a member, we'd love you to contribute - in making your own Hub.

This week 3/1/11 - 7/1/11 (see the attached programme)
- Knitting (reviving chairs, decorating cords)
- Design (external blinds, meeting room upgrade, meeting room table)
- Scavenging (petal table legs)
- Crafting (wheels on everything, last partitions, lockers)
- Sanding (new petal tables)
- Electronics (alterations of electrical cords)
- Rigging (hanging lamps, hoisting storage)

This Saturday 8/1/11 MAKE DAY
- Painting (all the walls) we need a crew of about 8 people to work with 3 contractors in painting the Hub with low-VOC paint (from 9am)
- Hosting (lunch and music for volunteers)

Next Monday 3/1/11:
- More painting...

Slow Wall Collaboration Project, curated by Hub member Peta Glenn + Lauren Nicholson

The object of this project is to bring texture and interest to the plastered interior of the bathrooms, and a large white wall alongside at The Hub Melbourne. At present the walls are very clear and smooth in various shades of white. We would like to bring together a couple of local artists to do a collaborative drawing/painting/paste-up that would be added to over time.

The project will be co-managed by Peta Glenn and Lauren Nicholson. There will be 3-4 artists involved (TBC). We would like to see the project well underway by early Jan 2011, with major engagement with the space visually by 25th Jan 2011. The Hub Melbourne’s official opening is early Feb 2011. The project will continue into 2011 with the walls being painted and pasted over and over, and visual creative conversations being passed on from artist to artist.
